Raven Halfmoon | Solo Exhibition
Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art

Building on our legacy of visionary commissions, the Kemper Museum will present a solo exhibition by Raven Halfmoon, featuring ambitious, site-responsive works. Known for her commanding ceramic sculptures, Halfmoon has emerged as a leading artistic voice, gaining national attention for monumental sculptures that assert Indigenous presence and resilience through their colossal scale and force.

Born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma, Halfmoon was first introduced to ceramics as a teen by a Caddo elder. She carries forward the matrilineal tradition of Caddo coil-building, fusing it with her own sculptural language. Her influences range from ancient Indigenous pottery, Moai monoliths to Land Art, incorporating elements like cowboy hats to weave together layered stories of past, present, and future.

For this exhibition, Halfmoon is deeply engaging with the material, Indigenous, and cultural histories of Kansas City. The resulting works will not only respond to place, but reimagine it. This presentation marks a pivotal moment in her artistic evolution and a bold expansion of her creative practice.
