Biography

Angelina Pwerle (b. 1947 Utopia, Northern Territory, Australia) uses a painstaking process making miniscule marks on her canvases. Her works evoke movement through cloud-like shapes and a simple palette, often using a limited palette. Pwerle’s paintings are associated with Bush Plum Ahakeye Dreaming stories from her grandfather’s country and the traditional ceremonies that are associated with them. The Dreamings refer to the spiritual relationship they have with the land that they occupy.

Angelina Pwerle lives and works in Ngkawenyerre, Utopia, Northern Territory. Her work is in permanent collections around the world such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (NY); the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra (AU); the Aboriginal Art Museum, Utrecht (DE); the National Museum of Art, Osaka (JP); and the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (AU).
