Salon 94
Salon 94 is a contemporary art gallery founded by Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn in 2002, located in a historic 17,500-square-foot building along New York’s eminent Museum Mile. Steeped in cultural history, the building on 3 East 89th Street remains an activated and innovative hub for visual art and design in the city.
Built by architect and interior decorator Ogden Codman, Salon 94’s iconic building formerly belonged to arts philanthropist Archer Huntington and sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington before its residency by The National Academy of Design from 1940 to 2019. In 2021, the gallery launched their current headquarters with restoration and renovations completed by the late architect Rafael Viñoly – a longtime collaborator of Greenberg Rohatyn. Expanding beyond the white cube, the space embodies Salon 94’s dedication to cutting-edge art and design while honoring the building’s stature and Greenberg Rohatyn’s enduring attitude towards art, offering both a site for cultural pilgrimage and experience in New York.
Over the past two decades, Salon 94 has grown from showcasing a small group of artists’ projects in a non-traditional, domestic setting to supporting and exhibiting a dynamic and expansive program of established artists from around the world, united in their passion for innovation. Exhibiting a diverse, international roster of artists and estates known for breaking hierarchies between art and design, Salon 94 works as creative tastemakers – passionate about supporting the profile of those working in the margins until they come to redefine the mainstream.
Represented artists and upcoming exhibitions include Karon Davis, Raven Halfmoon, Mantua Nangala, Kennedy Yanko, Magdalene Odundo, Ruby Neri, Marilyn Minter, and Takuro Kuwata. The gallery’s complementary S94 Design program, launched in 2017, focuses on the work of leading global designers, including Max Lamb, Donald Judd Furniture, Rick Owens, Estate of Gaetano Pesce, and Jay Sae Jung Oh.
With an ongoing focus on supporting and nurturing artistic vision, Salon 94 and Salon 94 Design also dedicate themselves to providing a platform for projects, building special exhibitions, and expanding this format to include talks, videos, performances, and ongoing scholarship. Furthering its mission to elevate established artists and support its network, Salon 94 actively collaborates with other galleries to curate special programming and exhibitions.
